Vert d’Estour Marble
Bluestone base
42”H x 14”W x 12”D
The marble found in the Midi-Pyrenees region of France has a fine, distinctive green veining pattern. I am intrigued by the parallel nature of the veining and wanted to explore how it changes when cut at different angles. By sculpting an elongated star form like a starfruit or seed pod, I was able to dive into the heart of the stone and juxtapose the revealed patterns. I see the work as a representation of inner beauty. The name signals how the work may be viewed as a fixed and guiding star.
